Rarely do I give 4.5 stars for the Vision, Originality, Technique and Impact ratings (I never give 5) but as I was looking at the photo and deciding what to give, those ratings just seemed to fit.

I couldn't really find too much wrong with this picture. To me, this is a great example of a piece of film noir in a still photograph. As soon as I first saw even the thumbnail amongst other thumbnails it stood out to me. I wasn't disappointed when I opened it for a proper viewing.

Firstly, this shot works perfectly as a square image. It adds to the composition which, in itself, is superb. The positioning of the subject to the far right of the frame really helps you understand what it would be like to stand right at the end of that pontoon/walkway, with your toes sticking off the end.

The photographer has used depth of field very well here. There is sufficient detail in the waves and the water to show just how the conditions were when the photo was taken before you get to the subject who is perfectly, but softly (largely due to the beautiful grain), in focus. Then, the background is left suitably ambiguous and distant.

I like photos that enable you to ask questions which this also does. Who is the girl? What time of year is it? What is she thinking?...

Incredible shot. One of the best I've seen on dA in a long time.

Thanks! Makes the "rejected" status in some groups look funny :D

Maybe they didn't actually bother to open the picture to full-view and just looked at the thumbnail. If they looked at it properly they'd see how good it is!

This is a very powerful image. It almost looks like she wishes to jump in the water. Great photograph!

this wafting stage above the water adds something fictitious to it - lovely shot.
